Dear Mr. John Doe,

My name is Peter Pan and I am writing to let you know that I am going on an Alternative Spring Break (ASB) service trip, sponsored by the Campus Ministry Departments of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University.  I, along with 10 other students, will be traveling to Maytown, KY during our spring break, February 26th – March 5th.  We will be volunteering at the Maytown Learning Center.  We will spend the week doing various tasks, which may include: painting projects, landscaping projects, aid in worship, clean-up, organizing storage space, and food preparation. Throughout the week of service, we will also have the opportunity for group discussions, reflection activities, and journaling.  In addition to the trip I am participating in, the Campus Ministry Departments are also coordinating 9 other service trips throughout the United States as well as one international trip to Guatemala.  It will be a very exciting and rewarding spring break for all of us!

As volunteers, we are responsible for the costs of our trips.  Our costs will include transportation expenses (van rental, gas to and from the service sites, etc…), food, housing, and a donation to our service site.  The cost per person is $395.00. In order to offset this cost, I am writing to ask for any financial support that you might be able to give.  Any donation is appreciated, and prayers are always greatly appreciated as well.  If you are willing to donate, please make checks payable to: College of St. Benedict, and mail your contribution to:

In order to assist with our financial planning, all donations need to be received by Wednesday, February 8th, 2006.

Even if you are unable to donate any money, please mark your calendar for the week of February 26th -March 5th and say a special prayer for our group of 11 students and over 100 other students going on service trips.

I look forward to the week of volunteering for my own personal and spiritual growth, as well as the opportunity to help those in need.  When I return, I would love to share pictures and stories with you. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 555-555-5555 or you may contact our Campus Ministry Department at (320) 363-5074. Thank you for your time, your consideration of a donation, and prayers. It is much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Peter Pan
