"Since we have to be careful not to give away all of our money, charitable gift annuities are the best option for us," Mil said. "Annuities give us income and a tax deduction. The interest rate is also typically higher for our age bracket."
At the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University, Mil and Fran established charitable gift annuities. The beneficiaries are two scholarship funds in the name of influential English teachers, Sister Mariella Gable and Steve Humphrey. They also have charitable gift annuities at Saint Cloud State University, where both taught for 30 years.
