Whether expressed in Cantonese, Bosnian, Urdu, or Hindi, the message was simple. Thanks.

Saint Ben's Salutes Tom Petters

Today, more and more students are realizing the importance of looking outside the United States to understand the true global nature of business and model citizenship in our world.

A recent $5.3 million gift pledge from Tom Petters, chairman of Petters Group Worldwide,
will help broaden understanding and strengthen
engagement through the creation of the
Center for Global Education
at the College of Saint Benedict.

“Our future demands a more educated generation whose eyes are open to the world around them, and partnering with colleges and universities is one avenue to get this accomplished,” Petters said. “Whether choosing to work in business, non-profit, or education, tomorrow’s leaders will serve with the integrity, care, and passion acquired through classroom learning and global experience.”

The Center for Global Education will build upon the nationally-acclaimed study abroad program and global curriculum that the College of Saint Benedict shares with its educational partner, Saint John’s University. Currently, the two institutions offer 17 semester-long study abroad programs on 6 continents and a enjoy 25-year educational partnership with Southwest University in Beibei, Chongqing. The College of Saint Benedict also sends twice the percent of students abroad than any other women’s college in the nation.

Center activities will build on these successes by offering enhanced international scholarship, intercultural experiential learning, global academic partnering, and international recruitment. The Center also will bring the international arena closer to home with panel discussions, visiting scholars and lecturers, conferences, and workshops held on campus that are open to the public and address important global issues of the day.
