Renee Mayers ‘87 Appointed AVP, Human Resources at the College of The Bahamas
Nassau, BAHAMAS – Mrs. Renee Mayers has joined The College of The Bahamas as Associate Vice President, Human Resources, effective October 1, 2009.
Bringing over 30 years of human resources management experience Mrs. Mayers was most recently the Director of Human Resources at the Ministry of Tourism.
In her previous position, Mrs. Mayers was responsible for developing corporate policies, procedures and programmes relating to employee benefits, compensation, employee development relations and communications. She also successfully introduced several new Performance Management, Cross Training and Employee Recognition and Rewards programmes. In addition, she spearheaded the development of a recruitment policy, human resources information system and an employee communications and services unit.

As the Associate Vice President, Human Resources Mrs. Mayers is The College's leader on a full range of human resource services including workforce planning, compensation and benefits, employer branding, recruitment, orientation and retention of talented faculty and staff. In her current position, she will also provide direction for performance management, employee recognition policies and programmes, labour relations and collective bargaining and human resources policy development.

Mrs. Mayers began her career at The Ministry of Tourism in 1980 and rose from the ranks of Human Resource Manager, to Senior Manger and eventually the Director of Human Resources in 2003. She also served as a member of the Executive Committee for the Ministry of Tourism with responsibility for ensuring staffing and employee issues aligned with the overall strategic goals of the Ministry.
Mrs. Mayers graduated from The College of The Bahamas in 1981 with an Associate of Arts degree in Secretarial Science and furthered her studies at The College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management in 1987.
Her professional development achievements include Alternative Dispute Resolution, Training & Human Resources Development and Train-the-Trainer certifications. She is affiliated with Toastmasters, Society of Human Resources Management Association, Bahamas Human Resources Development Association, the Ministry of Tourism’s People-to-People Programme and International Association of Networking Professionals. She is also listed in the Cambridge Who’s Who Honors.
Mrs. Mayer’s appointment comes as The College, a member of the International Association of Universities, is in the midst of a crucial transition to become the University of The Bahamas and is determined to impact national development through research, innovation and education.
