05/04/2009

EAGAN, Minn., April 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross) announced the promotions of two executives as part of realignment among company divisions.

Kathy Mock '80 has been named senior vice president of Public and Health Affairs, giving her senior leadership over Prevention Minnesota, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation, and the company's community affairs department. Mock will retain the areas she managed in the capacity of vice president, including legislative affairs, public relations and internal communications. Additionally, she will continue to serve as chief executive officer for Blue Plus, the company's health maintenance organization.

'Kathy Mock and Jim Eppel are well-known and highly respected in their particular fields and in the health care community overall,' said Blue Cross President and CEO Pat Geraghty. 'By putting in place this kind of strategic integration, where all medical and network functions are under Jim, while prevention and community initiatives are aligned with Kathy's work in the public health and public policy areas, Blue Cross has strengthened our abilities to achieve even better health outcomes for members.'

A licensed attorney, Kathy Mock has more than two decades of experience in law and public policy.  Before joining Blue Cross in 1992, she served as government affairs counsel and director of administration and research for the Insurance Federation of Minnesota.

Mock is chair of the Minnesota Comprehensive Health Association and currently serves on the boards of the Minnesota Comprehensive Health Association; the Minnesota Council of Health Plans; the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation; the Alliance for Advancing Nonprofit Health Care; and the Citizens League, where is the immediate past chair. She also served as a 2004-2005 policy fellow with the Humphrey Institute Policy Forum. Mock is a graduate of the William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul and the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, with headquarters in the St. Paul suburb of Eagan, was chartered in 1933 as Minnesota's first health plan and continues to carry out its charter mission today: to promote a wider, more economical and timely availability of health services for the people of Minnesota.
