Semester Break Policy

The College of Saint Benedict Fall Semester Ends on Tuesday, December 20, 2016.

Residential Halls:

Officially close for the semester at 8:00 p.m. on December 20th, 2016 and will reopen at 9:00 a.m. on January 15th, 2017.

Campus Houses and Apartments:

Will remain open during the Semester Break except during the campus closure period of December 23rd, 2016 through January 2nd 2017.

All residents must have permission to remain on campus during any portion of the Semester Break and must complete a Semester Break Request in the Housing Portal.

Departing Campus

Students are required to check out of their residence halls, campus house or apartment within 24 hours of their last final (or last due date for final projects). We ask that students who are finished with their academic work leave so as to allow the remaining students, still studying for finals and students on final projects the best environment possible to complete their work.

The entire College of Saint Benedict campus will be closed December 23 - January 2

(campus offices & services will resume on January 3rd).

In an effort to be good stewards of our resources, the college is using this time to reduce utility usage, which will result in cost and energy savings. All campus offices and departments will be closed and ID access will be turned off for all residents, faculty and staff. Heat will be turned down across campus to 55*, lighting will be turned down, and services will not be available. Mail will not be delivered and vendors will not have access to campus. Campus Security will be on duty in the event of an emergency. We ask that unless circumstances truly prevent you from doing so that you make plans to be away from campus during this period of time.

To request permission to remain on campus over the break period you must be:

  • Participating in intercollegiate athletics
  • Working on campus during the break period
  • An international student or your permanent residence is more than 4 hours by car
  • Have special accommodations that need to be reviewed

You must still complete a semester break request to remain on campus even if you are requesting to stay for one of the reasons above. Those who do not complete a break request will not be granted access to the halls and apartments.

Completing the semester Break Request does not guarantee approval to remain in campus housing during the break. The College reserves the right to deny any resident permission to remain in their housing during the break. In addition, all policies must be followed or the privilege of staying on campus during the break may be revoked.
