Campus Recreation offers Basic CPR, First Aid, AED and Lifeguard American Red Cross (ARC) certification courses AND American Heart Association BLS classes for CSB/SJU students throughout the academic year. Many employers accept either certification. Check with employer on their requirements before registering.

If you are not a student or an employee on our campus, please contact the local Red Cross or American Heart Association Chapters for course offerings.
NURSING STUDENTS: St. Cloud Hospital requires proof of American Heart Association Basic Life Support at the Health Care Provider level, if applicable to role. They no longer accept documentation from other BLS classes, such as American Red Cross. Therefore, we have set up American Heart Association Classes Basic Life Support (BLS) classes as well!!! This course if ror healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. This is a 4-hour course so you only need to register for one of the dates.
AMERICAN RED CROSS CLASSES OFFERED:
Basic CPR/FA/AED certification - for those who have never been certified before, or for those whose certifications have expired. This is a 5-hour course. Cost $45/person.
CPR/FA/AED Refresher - for those who are currently certified but need to refresh their skills to recertify. This is a 3-hour course. Cost $30/person.
CPR/FA/AED Skill Challenge - for those who are currently certified and confident in their skills. No instruction will be given. You can come in, go through 2-3 scenarios and demonstrate skills/responses accordingly. This is a pass/fail to become re-certified. Failure to perform skills properly will mean that you would have to challenge again on another date or complete the refresher course. Cost $15/person. Contact Marcia Mahlum to set up a time and date.
Lifeguard Re-certification Course - for those who have a current or are in a grace period with their Red Cross Lifeguard certification. You will also receive Lifeguard/CPR/First aid/AED re-certification good for 2 years from the American Red Cross. This is a 12-hour course. Cost is $85/person. Lifeguard Certification Course - for those who are new to lifeguarding and need to complete the entire certification course, or for those who have let their certification lapse and need to retake the entire class. You will also receive Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid/AED certification with your lifeguard certification good for 2 years from teh American Red Cross. This is a 25-hour course. Cost is $110/person. Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

The Life-guarding course teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies in a pool environment. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. Upon successful completion (passing skill tests and written tests), participants will receive the American Red Cross certificate Life-guarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, recognized as valid for two years. This is the certificate needed to seek employment as a lifeguard at most facilities utilizing Red Cross lifeguards.
