"From the rule of Saint Benedict, God inspires us and He empowers us to support each other so that our lives are filled with joy. We are all inspired to build that community brick by brick." These are the soulful words of Megan Toninato, an all-MIAC and ALL-Region Third Team utility player for the Blazer softball team. This comes from an address she wrote and delivered at the 30th Annual Blazer Open in September.
Toninato referred to "brick by brick" building in the proverbial sense, of course, but the Blazer community is building something more tangible, too. Funds raised in Saint Ben's capital campaign will dramatically modernize athletic facilities at Saint Ben's. Plans include two soccer/ lacrosse fields; two softball fields; three intramural/multi-use fields; restrooms, concessions and fixed seating for spectators; and an athletic center featuring dedicated locker rooms and a training room. We're using our resources wisely and avoiding unnecessary extras. And yet, these upgrades will completely overhaul the athletic experience at Saint Ben's.
Thanks to support from donors like you, we'll be able to practice the Benedictine value of hospitality for everyone associated with Blazer athletics. That applies to potential recruits, visiting teams, varsity athletes, intramural and club sport participants, coaches and fans. It will make Blazer athletic events a destination for the community.
