Positioning Statement

At CSB and SJU, students attend two national Catholic liberal arts colleges. CSB, for women, and SJU, for men, share one academic program, and students attend classes together on both campuses. The colleges have one admission office, one library system and one student activities office. All facilities and most programs are open to students from both colleges. The combined enrollment of more than 3,800 students makes CSB and SJU the largest of the nation's liberal arts colleges.

Yet, CSB and SJU are two colleges. Each college retains its own campus, residence halls, athletic programs and traditions. Through unique programming, each college is committed to serving the needs of the respective gender it represents.

The Catholic character of CSB and SJU is shaped by the Benedictine communities that founded the colleges in the 19th century and continue to foster the academic, spiritual and social life of the colleges. Today, Benedictine women and men remain actively involved in teaching and administration, and their prayerful presence in community life provides the stable sense of home for which CSB and SJU are so well known.

Located an hour north of Minneapolis/St. Paul on I-94 in the heart of Central Minnesota lake country, the College of Saint Benedict has a unique partnership with nearby Saint John’s University for men that expands the resources of both institutions. The colleges offer the distinct benefits of two nationally recognized Catholic, undergraduate colleges and one exceptional education. We have a common undergraduate curriculum, identical degree requirements and a single academic calendar, as well as shared social, cultural and spiritual programs. Together we challenge our students to live balanced lives in a constantly changing world.
