Student ID announcement

Sent on behalf of Sue Palmer, CSB Vice President of Finance and Dick Adamson, SJU Vice President of Finance:

Dear Students,

In the wake of the recession, Congress made significant changes to federal consumer protection laws.  The changes were intended to improve U.S. consumer credit health and include a number of regulations that affect financial transactions.  Some of the new regulations target financial transactions at colleges, while others include higher education more generally in their scope.

In order to be in full compliance with the new federal regulations, miscellaneous charges to student tuition accounts are no longer allowed as of July 1, 2011.

The allowable items on your account include tuition, fees, room, board, financial aid, outside scholarships, and any fines, penalties, or damage assessments.  Your tuition account will accept meal plans, parking permits and bookstore purchases, for a time period at the beginning of each semester (August 1st thru September 10th  for Fall semester 2011 and December 10th thru February 10th   for Spring semester 2012) to assist you in obtaining text books or other academic materials.

Organizations, clubs and other groups will no longer be able to accept charges to your tuition account for purchases including, but not limited to:  t-shirts, sweatshirts, donations, and gifts. In addition, food and beverages not purchased with a meal plan will no longer be charged to your tuition account.

All colleges in the country must align their billing practice to the new federal regulations. You can use cash or check for nearly all purchases on campus.  If you prefer to use credit, many areas on campus - including the Culinary/Dining services, bookstore, and other locations - will accept debit or credit cards for payment.  You may also use debit or credit cards for online sales. If you prefer to use your ID Card, set up your Bookstore bucks or Dining bucks accounts at the bookstore or dining locations.

We ask for your cooperation and understanding during the transition period.  If you have any questions, please email community@csbsju.edu or call CSB Student Accounts at 320-363-5387 or SJU Student Accounts at 320-363-2193.

Thank you.
