Students seek counseling for a variety of interpersonal, developmental, and psychological concerns. The following list includes the eight most frequent concerns students present when seeking counseling:
Free, confidential counseling is available to all currently enrolled CSB/SJU students. To schedule an appointment students are welcome to call the Counseling and Health Promotion Office at either CSB (320-363-5605) or SJU (320-363-3236).
There are no fees for individual, couple, or group counseling services. There may be nominal fees for testing/assessments.
Counseling records are kept separate from other campus records to ensure students' privacy and confidentiality. No counseling record information is released without a student's written consent. The only exception to this policy occurs in rare situations when legal or ethical obligations require disclosure of information. For example, in an emergency situation where it seems highly probable that a student may harm herself/himself or others, counseling staff may be required to release particular information to ensure safety.
Call ext. 5605 (CSB) or ext. 3236 (SJU) to schedule an appointment with a staff member. We encourage students to schedule appointments as early in the semester as possible. Our 'Links to Resources' section of our web site may also be helpful.
Consultation services are available to faculty, staff, students, and parents to help them address the developmental and psychological needs of students.
If you choose to utilize this service, please be advised that professional and ethical standards require counseling staff to maintain confidentiality of client contacts and records. We are therefore unable to provide any information regarding a student's use of our services without the student's prior written informed consent. This restriction applies to both current and past use of counseling services. An exception to these standards is made when a student is at imminent risk of harming self or others.
If you would like to consult with a staff member, please call 363-5605 (CSB) or 363-3236 (SJU) to schedule an appointment.
