My research group is interested in how small molecules interact with biological systems. One branch of this is designing and synthesizing potential drug candidates. We have developed and synthesized antibacterial agents to kill drug resistant bacteria. In addition, we are currently working on developing inhibitors for Low Molecular Weight Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase, an enzyme used in cell signal transduction and a potential anti-cancer target. My group is also interested in developing early detection methods for tobacco-induced cancers based on DNA biomarkers.
