As for myself, I'm starting my fifth year of graduate school at the University of Iowa, Department of Biochemistry in Iowa City. I have hopes to finish this May, but December seems to be the more realistic time frame. The research is going well. A very general description of my research is the study of the calcium-induced changes in the structure and function of calmodulin. We are using fluorescence, CD & UV/Vis spectroscopies, hydrophobic interaction and gel permeation chromatography and protoeolytic footprinting techniques to explore the changes in structure of calmodulin and relate those changes to the diverse function of this protein. I've written my first paper that defines the use of gel permeation chromatography for the determination of the Stokes radius for calmodulin in the absence and presence of calcium, and it has just been accepted for publication in the Biophysical Journal.
