Why did I become a first-year mentor?

I became a first-year mentor because transitioning to college life is TOUGH.  Transplanting myself 3,000 miles from my home without a true support network is one of the hardest things that I've ever done.  While many students don't come from 3,000 miles away, I think that the feelings of exhaustion, loneliness and straight-up confusion can be universal.  I am a peer mentor because I wish that I had a peer mentor my freshman year.  This program is AWESOME.

Who I am, what I do and what I think.

I am an Alaskan through and through.  I love wild, open spaces, mountains and clean air.  I found CSBSJU by a stroke of sheer luck and couldn't be more grateful for the connections, friendships and mentors that I've found here. On campus, I am a certified yoga teacher, a runner, and a Peace Studies major, among many other things.  My four years at CSBSJU have equipped me with the critical thinking and problem solving skills needed to tackle anything that I face in the future.  I am excited to share my knowledge of this wonderful place and help each of my mentees find their niche in this dynamic community!

Why I want to be a mentor:

I want to be a mentor because college is a lot about meeting people and building relationships, especially positive ones. I want to be able to give that opportunity to First Years and help them to feel welcome and share my appreciation for the CSB/SJU community and show them how great the people are here.
