Jake Barrientos

Jake is a communications major at Saint John's.  In his application he recounted the story of charging $2 at recess to teach his elementary school peers how to count in Spanish.  While his school principal was not enthused and asked Jake to turn over all he earned, he himself knew he liked getting his creativity flowing to earn money.  The summer after his first year in college he was asked by the director of his hometown YMCA to lead the summer baseball/softball camps.  He embraced the challenge, learned how to coach on the job and helped 60 youth enjoy their summer. Jake sees the Entrepreneur Scholars program as a place to learn more about how to be a successful leader of an entrepreneurial venture and to try to start one while he has the support of advisors and coaches.
