Ireland

The Irish studies program is located on the spectacularly rugged west coast of Ireland, famous for its poets, musicians and artists, and for its splendid vistas of green mountains, constantly changing skies, endless rows of field stone fences, winding valleys, swaths of bogland and rugged coastline. Students are housed in cottages overlooking Galway Bay, near the town of Spiddal. The faculty consists of a professor who accompanies the group and distinguished professors from nearby University College Galway. Students study the history, literature and culture of Ireland.

Students may also participate in a fall semester direct enrollment program at the University College Cork's early start program in Irish archeology, history of modern Ireland, Irish ecosystems, or the literatures of Ireland. Students study the early start topic intensively in September and then enroll directly in classes with Irish students for the fall semester. Classes are available in the liberal arts and sciences. Students live with Cork students in residences within walking distance of campus.
