Greece and Italy

The focus of the program is the study of classical and contemporary art, history, religion and literature in Athens and Rome. The Greco-Roman program begins in Athens, the cradle of western art, philosophy and democratic ideals. Contrasts between the ancient and contemporary in this lively and boisterous Mediterranean metropolis provide a backdrop for an exploration of the origins and legacy of classical culture. Inquiry continues in Rome, where the vast resources of antiquity and layer after layer of ecclesiastical and political development form the basis for analysis. Courses are taught in English in classrooms, on historical and archaeological sites and in museums. The faculty consists of a professor who accompanies the group and distinguished professors from universities and colleges in Athens and Rome.
