The Writing Centers
The Writing Centers provide writing instruction and support to
students and other members of the CSB and SJU communities. Well-qualified peer tutors
offer free, individualized, intelligent response to writers and their writing questions.
During an
appointment, the writer and the tutor work together to identify and meet the writer's
needs. Usually writers who use Writing Center services seek help in one of four general
areas: (1) help with getting started (talking through a topic, organizing ideas), (2)
advice with rewriting (refocusing the text to better support the thesis, polishing the
conclusion), (3) instruction in using conventions of standard written English (correct
sentence structures, grammatical forms), and (4) support for students who have learning
disabilities and for non-native English writers.
Writers can Make an appointment by calling one of the Writing
Centers or by checking the appointment schedule outside the Writing Center door. Some
writers want a one-time-only appointment for work on a particular essay; others want to
establish a routine set of appointments to achieve personal or departmental writing goals.
In addition to the one-to-one tutoring service, the Writing
Centers also offer group instruction on particular writing topics, small group workshops
for writers wroking on the same assignment, and a quick-answer email hotline. |
