Career Services' Classroom Presentations
Assist students in discovering the possibilities:
CSB and SJU Career Services offers a number of presentations and programs that can be delivered to your students. Several of these are identified below with a brief explanation.
- ATLAS: (Achieving Through Learning and Searching) is being introduced to our new students this fall. This four-year planning guide focuses on helping students to create meaningful integrating learning experiences during their time at CSB/SJU. The Symposium presentation will focus on the philosophy of ATLAS, the components of ATLAS, and maximizing ATLAS to throughout one’s college career.
- Career Planning from a Liberal Arts Perspective: A career development model that can be utilized as the basis for life-long career decision making is presented. Translating a liberal arts education into future opportunities for work, graduate school and volunteering is emphasized.
- Exploring Interests: The Career Decision-Making System-Revised instrument is interpreted with a focus on how interests fit an individual’s self-assessment and career development processes.
- Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): The MBTI is interpreted with a focus on how personality type is related to self-assessment and careers.
- Challenge Course: Classes are taken into the SJU woods to engage in a series of initiatives. Then they process the individual initiatives and the experience. The processing of the experience can be tailored to topics provided by the instructor including group process, communication, problem solving, decision making, and personal awareness.
- Resume and Cover Letter: The purpose of a resume and cover letter are discussed. Students are then provided with the logistics of constructing a resume and cover letter.
- Interviewing: Preparing for interviews, the interview process, and the interview follow-up are all discussed. The material is presented to fit any number of interview situations (i.e., summer jobs, work study positions, internships, and graduate school).
- Networking: The concept and value of information interviewing is introduced. Students are walked through the information interviewing process from beginning to end. The concept of networking, its value, and uses are introduced. How to network including identifying, nurturing, and utilizing contacts is discussed.
In addition to the presentations listed above, a staff member from CSB or SJU Career Services could meet with you to customize a career presentation that will fit the needs of your students.
