Individual Appointments
Individual career counseling appointments are available to assist students in selecting a major. Career counselors help students examine their interests, skills, and values and work with them to create a plan of action.
What Can I do With a Major In…?
"What Can I do With a Major In...?" is a great resource for students wanting to learn more about the majors offered at CSB|SJU. For each area of study, students can view examples of alumni occupations and related resources available at the Career Resource Centers. Links to employment, professional associations, and other related websites are also provided.
Researching a Major Worksheet
This ATLAS worksheet suggests ways students can learn more about majors they are considering. It also poses a series of questions that encourages students to think critically about choosing a major. Professors have incorporated this worksheet into Symposium and introductory courses.
Career Exploration Series (CES)
Career Services hosts numerous CES sessions throughout the academic year. Panels center on either ‘What can I do with a ______ major?’ or ‘Careers in _____’ , and are designed to help students gather information about majors and career paths. Each session begins with a panel-style discussion during which the panel members discuss their educational backgrounds and career path. The session concludes with Q&A and the opportunity to speak informally with panelists. These sessions are designed to help students make more informed major and career decisions.
CES events are held most weeks during the semester, on Tuesday or Wednesday nights. For a complete listing of the CES events offered this year click here. Please contact us if you have suggestions for a new CES topic.
Assessment Inventories
Both the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Strong Interest Inventory (SII) are instruments used for career exploration on an individual appointment basis. The MBTI identifies personality types and explores preferences for communication styles, leadership styles, and work environments. The SII measures interest in a broad range of occupations, work activities, leisure activities, and school subjects.
Career Resource Center Library
The library contains books, pamphlets, files, videos and internet resources that describe a broad range of majors and occupational choices. The Career Resource Centers are staffed by trained student Career Assistants, who are available to assist students on a walk-in basis.
Career Designs
Career Designs, the monthly publication of CSB|SJU Career Resource Centers, is used to inform about career issues such as choosing a major, preparing for graduate school, searching for an internship or job, as well as highlighting information on workshops.
