5 Myths about Networking
networking

"Networking has this reputation of cold-calling people and demanding jobs, but it's not like that at all. Networking involves talking to everyone. You never know who they know. Keep building your relationships so you can help other people succeed. Everybody knows something, but unless you make people aware, they can't help you."

Bennie and Johnnie Spotlights

Intern: Matthew Hanowski, '15 INDV: Integrated Health Science Major
Dental Health Educator, Falls Court Dental Office

"Don't be afraid to create your own opportunities. If there isn't an opening in the field you are interested in, make one. I learned a lot from my internship experience in part because it was so unique. Don't settle for a desk job internship if that isn't what you truly want. There is so much to learn if you have the willingness to learn."

Matthew Hanowski
Alum: Heather Stoven, '98 Biology Major
Extension Horticulturalist- Oregon State University

"
I was able to complete several internships during college in various areas including weed science, entomology and ecology. These were important not only because I was able to dabble in a few different areas to gauge my interests, but also because it gave me a background in many fields that I have been able to draw from in my position."
