Appendix D Environmental Monitoring of Chemicals

The table below contains a list of biology department chemicals that can require environmental monitoring. Environmental monitoring is not required, but recommended for other chemicals if reasons exist to suspect that TLVs are exceeded.

Action levels are expressed in the same units as TWA: time weighted average concentration for a normal 8-hour workday and a 40-hour week.
TWA = Time weighted average concentration for a normal 8-hour workday and a 40-hour week, to which nearly all workers might be repeatedly exposed, day after day, without adverse affects.
STEL = A 15-minute time-weighted average exposure which should not be exceeded at any time during a workday.
Possible monitoring methods list products available include testing by a lab. If gas chromatography is available, less expensive alternatives are possible. Listing of the product does not imply endorsement of the product.
