The lower division courses of the biology major sequence are designed to provide students with a thorough introduction to fundamental biological concepts. Upper division requirements are designed to ensure breadth of exposure to the major disciplines within biology while providing the opportunity for specialization for interested students. The close interrelationship of biology to other disciplines requires that majors complete a program of supportive work in chemistry, physics, and mathematics. For this reason, we suggest that prospective biology majors consult with department members early in their academic program regarding specific requirements.
Lower Division Required courses:
With the consent of the department chairperson, requirements for students preparing to teach at the secondary level may be adjusted to meet the specific needs of the student and state requirements.
