Management Assessment Plan

Mission Statement

  1. The assessment process is a continuous part of the academic environment within the Management Department.
  2. The assessment program focuses on core courses required of the major.
  3. The assessment program includes evaluating student ability in quantitative reasoning, problem solving, awareness of global perspectives, identifying and evaluating relevant information, integration of functional areas of the enterprise, recognition of leadership roles.
  4. At least once a year, the entire department is to review and evaluate the results of the assessment program to make recommendations for improvements.
  5. The assessment program utilizes both internal and external reviews.

 

Goals

Goal I: To prepare students to practice management, with the ability to adapt to a complex and turbulent global environment.

Objective A: Students should be able to demonstrate understanding and application of the principles of management, organizational behavior, and strategic management

Objective B: Students should be able to demonstrate understanding of the quantitative applications of business.

Objective C: Students should be able to demonstrate understanding and applications of business strategy in a changing, global environment.

Goal II: To develop methods of inquiry within the management curriculum that build on the interdisciplinary nature of management.

Objective A: Students should be proficient in both setting up problems and solving them using a wide array of quantitative and qualitative tools including computer software, the Internet, and Library Resources.

Goal III: To utilize pedagogical methods which reflect practice in organizations, now and in the future.

Objective A: Students should be able to work in groups to gain better understanding of the social nature of organizations

Objective B: Students should be exposed to ethical issues in management. Students should gain an understanding of socially responsible behavior and its societal implications.

Objective C: Students should be able to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.

Goal IV: To encourage continual faculty development and professional growth.

Objective A: Promote faculty interaction and sharing and collaboration of ideas.

Objective B: Encouraging faculty development and professional growth in the field of management.

Objective C: Maintain and foster ties with the local business community.

Objective D: Obtain student feed back regarding the curriculum and their experience in the department.

Goal V: To contribute to development of management theory and practice through institutional and community service.

Objective A: Encourage faculty service within the university and the department.

Objective B: Encourage faculty service in the external community where management expertise can be utilized.
