Asia-Related Summer Opportunities

Looking for a great way to spend your summer in Minnesota or abroad?  Check out these opportunities:

  • SJU hosts ESL camps for Japanese high school students every summer.  If you've studied Japanese or visited Japan, you can apply to work as a camp counselor. Contact Prof. David Bennetts for more information.
  • Concordia Language Villages offers summer language programs for American children ages 8-18, and needs college-age staff members to teach Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
  • Volunteer opportunites are available with camps that focus on Asian culture. Visit Korean Culture Camp and Kamp Kimchee to learn more.
  • Consider an internship with the Japan-America Society of Minnesota. This summer, SJU senior Andy Morris worked there as an intern.
  • Every summer, the Japan-America Student Conference meets in the U.S. or Japan (alternating years) and discusses a number of issues important to American and Japanese college and graduate students.  It's a great opportunity to meet other students interested in Asia and do some traveling, either at home or abroad!  A Korea-America Student Conference based on the Japanese model was launched in the summer of 2008.  Visit the International Student Conferences site for more information.
