Combat Water Survival Training

Each semester cadets from the Fighting Saints Battalion participate in the Army Combat Water Survival Training (CWST).   This training ensures that cadets have the fundamental water survival skills necessary to survive in today’s environment. CWST not only fosters the growth of swimming techniques that save lives but personal courage as well.  The various events that are tested include a 10 minute swim, 25 meter rifle swim, don and ditch, tread water, and lastly 5 meter drop.

Although some cadets have great fear of water, and weak swimming skills all valiantly attempted the task put forth to them. Cadets that did not pass this semester’s CWST will continue to take remedial training until they have become proficient and capable of taking and passing next semester’s CWST.

As you can see this training and experience is something both unique and necessary.  At the end of the day all are left with a sense of accomplishment, but this is not the end of water skills training for the final test will be conducted at Leadership Advanced Camp in Ft. Lewis, WA.
