Practicing sustainable land use and providing opportunities for education and research are important aspects of our mission at Saint John’s Arboretum. Saint John’s Arboretum is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council as a green forestry operation. This means that Saint John’s harvests timber on a rotating basis in order to promote forest diversity and the natural beauty of the land. Students and the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University often engage in research projects in our living outdoor library. Professors and members of the monastery at Saint John’s have also documented the unique biological communities present in Central Minnesota through research and writing.
