Background Information:
In 1991, the prairie was planted with over one hundred species of prairie grasses and flowers on fifty-five acres of Saint John’s land. Every year the prairie is burned to renew and prepare the earth for another growing season. Less than one percent of Minnesota’s original prairie remains today, which means Saint John’s prairie is a very important part of the Minnesota landscape and must be continually maintained.
If you are interested in volunteering to help remove exotic species print out this web page, circle the job above that you would like, fill out the information below, and return to the Arboretum offices. We will contact you about training and programs.
