The two cattails found at Saint John's are the Narrow-leaved Cattail and the Common Cattail.
The two species of cattails can be differentiated by the flower. On the Narrow-leafed Cattail the staminate flowers are separated by gap from pistillate flowers (bottom left). Whereas, on the Common Cattail the staminate flowers are NOT separated by gap from pistillate flowers (bottom right).
