What’s a Class Committee?
The Saint John’s University Alumni Association was founded in 1882 with an enduring mission: “to strengthen and perpetuate the bond of friendship formed in college days, to advance the welfare – spiritual and temporal – of its members and to further the interests of alma mater.”
The same spirit of this statement carries over to Class Committees today. Class Committee members gather to enjoy the kind of camaraderie that is famously unique to Johnnies. Furthermore, they work to connect other classmates to Saint John’s and to each other. More details about being involved with our Class Committee are at the bottom of this page.
Who's Leading the Class Committee?
Joe Mullen is leading the 1968 Class Committee, along with a growing list of talented individuals!
News from Joe Mullen:
For the past six years Bob Precourt has been the Parish Director of a 1,200 member Catholic parish near Stevens Point, Wis. The really good news is that in May 2007, the bishop of the Green Bay Diocese ordained him to the Order of the Diaconate. Among other functions, he can now marry and baptize people, which helps the parish and the Sacramental Ministers. On a sad note, his mother of 102 years passed away just a week before his ordination. Among his last conversations he had with her, they talked of her going out to buy a dress for his ordination. Bob is looking forward to the reunion.Patrick O'Dougherty is a research professor at the University of Minnesota in the field of intellectual history. He has published many award winning books and numerous articles and films. In the 1980's he became a Benedictine Oblate with Father Mike Tegeder and Father Mike Skluzacek who are both Johnnies. He is also a founder/mentor of Minnesotans for a United Ireland and Failte Minnesota.
What’s Our Reunion Plan?

Mini-reunions are already getting underway. John Guild reported in November that he, Gary Loosbrock, Mike Beutz, Mike Haider, Bill Hoss and Doug Ray all got together -- for the first time since graduation -- at his lake home on Gull Lake last summer. They started talking about coming back for the big reunion next fall.
As mentioned above, our reunion weekend is September 26-28, 2008. In addition to the many annual Homecoming activities, our class reunion committee is planning special events just for our class. View a schedule of the weekend’s activities.

Many of us have memories of Saint John’s that we like to share with other Johnnies when we get together. Now, even if we can’t be together in person, we can still share some of our favorite thoughts about our alma mater and our time together. To do this, please email your story to Thom Woodward at twoodward@csbsju.edu. The Saint John’s staff will post these memories, and we’ll soon have a link so we can read what our fellow classmates have to say.
So How Can I Get Involved?
If you’d like to be involved with our class committee, please contact Thom Woodward at twoodward@csbsju.edu or at 320.363.2586. Over the coming year, our class will be working on supporting the Four Cornerstones of the Alumni Association:
- Student Recruitment: Asking classmates to refer potential students to the CSB/SJU Admission Office. (To do this, visit the Online Referral Page).
- Student Preparation: Helping prepare current Johnnies for life after graduation through job placement, internships, and mentoring.
- Alumni Connections: Helping enrich the lives of our 20,000 alumni and engaging them in support of the Saint John’s community, and reconnecting them in the online community or at SJU events.
- Resource Development: Helping address the financial needs of the SJU community by supporting the Annual Fund or Capital Campaign.
We’d love to see you get involved, so please contact Thom Woodward today. The Class Committee is a great way to get reconnected to Saint John’s or to strengthen the connections that you already have.
