Eboo Patel and the Interfaith Youth Core: Interfaith Engagement and Religious Identity

There are not many books about the subjects of my thesis (Eboo Patel and the Interfaith Youth Core), but there are a plethora of speeches and articles pertaining to them. I know I wouldn't have had time to sift through the number that I have during the school year. Also, one of the main things I've learned about thesis writing is its a continuous process of evaluation. Sometimes I would come across contradictory information and it took awhile to see the general trend. The trend didn't always match what I had originally thought, meaning I had to go back and reevaluate the structure of my thesis. It was spectacular to have the summer to focus on researching and I highly recommend anyone who is considering writing a thesis to apply for this fellowship!

The Women of Cheboksary, A Russian Fairytale

I did a creative writing thesis and wrote a full-length, two act play. I wanted to create a piece of dramatic literature that centered on the interactions among women, as well as their relationship to institutions like government and religion. I took inspiration for my play from the real life Bride Show of Ivan the Terrible, re-imaginged how the event might have affected the people of a Russian village, and told the story as if it were a fairytale. Thanks to the Summer Honors Fellowship I was able to devote a whole summer to writing it and had a fully-revised draft by the end of the summer.

Are forgiving people less likely to experience cognitive dissonance induced attitude change?

Receiving this fellowship allowed me to make my honors thesis proposal as strong as possible, while gaining the experience of working closely with my advisor. I was able to focus completely on perfecting my proposal because of this fellowship, and not about struggling to work on it while working a summer job to save up money for the fall semester.
