Senior Survey Class of 2011

Since 2001, the Office of Institutional Planning and Research has administered the CSB/SJU Senior Survey each fall to seniors at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University. The CSB/SJU Senior Survey provides students with an opportunity to describe and evaluate their experiences at CSB and SJU. Student responses are grouped into nine indicators of academic and campus engagement:

  1. level of academic challenge
  2. active and collaborative learning
  3. enriching educational experiences
  4. interaction with faculty
  5. supportive campus environment
  6. value added indicators
  7. life objectives
  8. self assessment
  9. other key indicators

Here's what the class of 2011 told us:

  • 60% of seniors have worked with a faculty member on a scholarly task outside of class (such as a research project)
  • 59% of seniors have worked with a faculty member or administrator on an activity other than coursework or research (committees, volunteer work, or student life activities)
  • 57% of seniors have participated in gender specific programs and activities
  • 82% of seniors stated that CSB/SJU has contributed to their understanding of themselves as a man or woman.
  • 59% of seniors stated they have or plan to study abroad before graduation
  • 92% of seniors  stated that their experiences outside of the classroom (e.g., residential life, student organizations, social events, athletics) have enhanced the quality of their academic experience
  • 95% of seniors stated that CSB/SJU has helped them prepare for their future career
  • 93% of seniors stated that CSB/SJU has helped them develop a lifelong social and professional network
  • 95% of seniors stated that CSB/SJU has helped them develop leadership skills
  • 91% of seniors rated their overall social experience at CSB/SJU as either good or excellent.
  • 84% of seniors described CSB/SJU as comfortable
  • 90% of seniors stated the word "Community" characterizes CSB/SJU.
  • 88% of seniors described CSB/SJU as friendly
  • 83% of seniors stated that a CSB/SJU professor serves as a role model
  • 96% of seniors stated they have good or excellent relationships with other students
  • 92% of seniors stated they have good or excellent relationships with faculty
  • 66% of seniors stated they often or very often talk about career plans with a faculty member or advisor
  • 64% of seniors stated they often or very often have conversations with a faculty member outside of class
