Internship and Career Opportunities

The career opportunities in the accounting and finance fields are extensive, varied and rewarding. This is an unprecedented time of demand for qualified accountants and finance professionals.

At the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University, there are a host of resources available to students to assist in identifying and exploring internship and career opportunities.

Internship Policies

Students should refer to the Internship website (www.csbsju.edu/internship) for Institutional guidelines, requirements and resources.

Accounting students may complete an internship for 1 to 8 credits. (Note that most states limit the internship credits they will accept towards the 150-hour CPA requirement to no more than six credits. Minnesota recently removed the 6 credit hour restriction.) Students must select a faculty advisor and present well-thought out learning goals to their advisor in the early stages of internship planning. We require that the goals be specific and measurable; an internship is a valuable educational experience - proper planning helps you achieve the maximum possible benefit.

Internships may be completed year round. Contact the Career Services offices for assistance in beginning your internship opportunity search.

All internships are graded Pass/Fail.

Career Exploration

Among the many resources available to students are the following:

  • The Accounting and Finance Club hosts several events each year to familiarize students with potential employers and career paths.
  • Career Services provides a number of services, including
    • Resume, interviewing and other assistance
    • Coordination of on-campus interviews for internships and job openings. They also provide a plethora of information for off-campus interview opportunities.
    • All students should get familiar with elink, the Career Service's web site linking you to these opportunities.
  • The Accounting and Finance faculty, who are wonderful resources to counsel students on internship and career opportunities.
