Seymour Melman

Dr. Seymour Melman is Professor Emeritus of Industrial Engineering at Comumbia University, New York, NY. He also teaches courses on political economics of war and peace at Barnard College and Columbia's graduate School of International and Public Affairs. He holds a B.S.S. in economics from the College of the City of New York (1939) and a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University (1949).

He has written nine books an edited six. His most recent books include Profits Without Production (University of Pennsylvania Press, 1987) and The Demilitarized Society (Harvest House, Montreal, 1988). He has authored dozens of articles in publications from scholarly journals to the daily newspaper. He lectures frequently on economic conversion and disarmament to universities and other organizaitons, both in this country and abroad.

Dr. Melman is the chair of the National Commission for Economic conversion and Disarmament. He has received awards from The New York Academy of Sciences and The Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
