Theology Graduate Assistantships

Students talking in Emmaus HallSaint John's School of Theology·Seminary offers several graduate assistantships to incoming and registered students for the upcoming academic year.  There are three purposes for a theology graduate assistantship:

  • to provide students with an opportunity to develop professional or ministerial skills in various areas, while
    completing a graduate theological degree
  • to provide opportunities to discern vocational interest and competence
  • to provide experience that will help secure full time employment upon graduation

Graduate Theology Assistantships are being offered in the following areas for the upcoming academic year:

College of Saint Benedict Campus Ministry Assistantship

One campus ministry graduate assistantship is being offered by College of Saint Benedict Campus Ministry, in conjunction with Saint John's School of Theology·Seminary. This assistantship provide a great way for a student to be immersed in the work of campus ministry and finance their graduate education.

  • Graduate assistant must be practicing Catholics whose lifestyle is publicly consistent with Catholic teaching and Benedictine values
  • Appointments are 20 hours/week, August - May each year, and renewable for 3 years
  • Assistant receive School of Theology·Seminary scholarship, financial aid (if eligible), a stipend, and continuing formation

Parish Graduate Assistantship

St. John's School of Theology·Seminary has established partnership with St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose, MN as a Teaching Parish.  The parish will serve an opportunity for students to gain contextual knowledge in pastoral ministry. The program provides students preparing for ministerial leadership the opportunity to fulfill the field education requirement by serving in a parish.  St. Mary's Catholic Church is one of four clustered parishes in a rural setting.  They have a growing Hispanic population. The staff at St. Mary's are professional ecclesial leaders who will provide leadership and mentoring. Two Graduate Assistantships are available: (1) Liturgy and Music and (2) Faith Formation.

Saint John’s University Campus Ministry Assistantships

Five campus ministry graduate assistantships are offered by Saint John's University Campus Ministry, in conjunction with Saint John's School of Theology·Seminary. The Saint John’s Bible Graduate Assistantship

In 2009, the School of Theology·Seminary was commissioned to develop curriculum as a companion for The Saint John’s Bible. This graduate assistantship opens new opportunities for students seeking graduate theological education to gain experience in scripture, art, catechesis and theology while they pursue their academic studies. A graduate assistant involved in this project will have the opportunity to assist in the curriculum development, provide presentations and serve as a liaison between the School of Theology·Seminary and other organizations. If you have a love for scripture and pastoral ministry, consider applying for this graduate assistantship.
