What is this?
The Kill-A-Watt Energy Competition is a challenge for our dorms to shave off their electricity consumption by at least 10% for eight weeks!
How does it work?
To make this competition interesting, we are going to pit dorms against each other to see who can save the most electricity.
A baseline has been computed for each building by averaging electrical usage for the following time periods:
January 31, 2010 through March 27, 2010
February 6, 2011 through April 2, 2011
January 16, 2012 through 3:00 PM on February 1, 2012, which was then extrapolated out for the length of the competition in order to estimate usage for the current year
The two dorms that have the highest-percentage reduction relative to their baselines will win cash prizes, and those dorms will each get to decide how to spend them!
In addition, the winning dorm will be enshrined with its name engraved on a plaque which will be shown in a public location.
What about Seton?
Seton is the only residential building that is predominantly heated by electricity. Including Seton with everyone else wouldn't be fair. Therefore, we're creating a special competition called the Seton Cup.
Each building of Seton will compete against each other. If all of Seton saves at least 5% on its electricity consumption relative to the baseline, the residents of the winning building will be awarded a $250 prize. They, in conjunction with their FR and/or RA, would determine how the prize is spent.
The baseline for Seton is the average electrical consumption for the following two periods:
January 31, 2010 through March 27, 2010
February 6, 2011 through April 2, 2011
