On-campus Housing Selection
Room Selection Overview
The Room Selection is held in late March / early April each year. Rooms are selected by class cohort-- rising seniors, rising juniors and rising sophomores. Selection times are determined and assigned for each eligible participant within a cohort based on total number of credit hours through the Spring semester of the current academic year. A class cohort is based on the year a student enrolled at St. John's. Times are assigned by computer. A computer assigns, ranks, and sorts the selection times of the participants. Participants with a higher number of total credit hours will get an earlier selection time within their cohort. If a participant has the same total number of credit hours as other participants within the cohort, their selection times will be randomized with the participants with the same number of credit hours.
For more detailed Room Selection information and forms, current students can visit our Intranet Website.

Junior/Senior Housing Options
Students who are part of the Junior or Senior cohort have several housing options available to them including Apartment Selection or General Room Selection.
Apartment Selection
Apartment selection is designed for those students in the Senior and Junior cohorts that desire to obtain an apartment in the one of the following areas:
- Benet Hall (Ground floor)
- Edelbrock House
- Marmion House
- Maur House
- Metten Court
- New Flynntown Apartments
- Placid House
- Seton Apartments
- Vincent Court
- Virgil Michel House
The Senior Majority apartment selection is limited to Maur House, New Flynntown, Placid House and Vincent Court apartment areas. Only students within the Senior cohort (4 or more years in college) will receive selection times for the Senior Majority apartment selection. Seniors may bring in students in the Junior cohort as roommates in the apartments provided that the students meet the Apartment Eligibility and Senior Majority requirements.
Apartment Eligibility:
Apartment eligibility is based on the following criteria:
- All members of the Junior or Senior cohort are eligible to live campus apartments
- Sophomores are not allowed to live in most campus apartments with the exception of Virgil Michel House
- First-year students are not allowed to live in campus apartments
Senior Majority:
New Flynntown Apartment, Placid House, Maur House, and Vincent Court apartments are designated "Senior-majority". That means more than half of the occupants of the apartment must be part of the Senior cohort. For example, in a 6-person apartment, at least 4 of the tenants must be from the Senior cohort. All 6 residents can be Seniors, but the maximum number of Juniors in a 6-person apartment is 2. This requirement will not be waived except when general campus occupancy needs warrant a change.Junior & Senior General Selection
Students from the Junior or Senior cohort may live in the following residential areas, in additiona to campus apartments:
- Benet Hall
- Bernard Hall (Juniors only)
- Frank House
- Greg House
- Joe Hall
If Juniors or Seniors participate in General Room Selection, they will be assigned a selection time & date based on their total number of credit hours and cohort. They will then attend room selection at their designated time, date, and location with their roommate(s). There will be large charts with available housing option(s) from which they can select the option that best suits their desired living arrangements.
Sophomore Housing Options
Second-year students can live in the following residential areas:- Benet Hall
- Bernard Hall
- Boniface Hall
- Greg House
- Joe Hall
- Patrick Hall
- Tommy Hall (1st Floor Only)
- Virgil Michel House
Second-year students may live with other upper-class students, but only in areas in which both students are eligible to live. For example, a sophomore and junior may wish to live together as roommates. They could live in Bernard Hall, Benet Hall, Greg House, or Joe Hall but could not live in Patrick, Boniface, and Tommy Halls, or any campus apartment because of the cohort criteria for each area.
Sophomores who participate in room selection will be assigned a selection time & date based on their total number of credit hours and cohort. They will attend the selection at their designated time, date, and location with their roommate(s). There will be large charts with available housing option(s) from which they can select the option that best suits their desired living arrangements.
Single Rooms
Due to limited resources, St. John's only has limited number of single rooms available to students.
- Benet Hall - 33 singles
- Frank House - 25 singles
- Greg House - 7 singles
- Joe Hall - 24 singles
These rooms will available for choosing during the general selection nights.
Residential Life and Housing maintains a singles waiting list. If you are interested in a single room, please sign up on the waiting list. If any singles open up after room selection or during the academic year, they are offered to the students on the waiting list.
