Madeline Neenan spent the summer compiling research to develop concrete evidence of the transferable life skills that students gain from their student employment experiences. She looked at student evaluations that were completed, more specifically the question “How has your student employment experience positively affected your college experience? Describe skills that you have learned while at CSB/SJU” to qualitatively analyze what students have learned. For the first time at CSB/SJU, there is concrete evidence of the transferable life skills that students gain from their student employment experiences. This information was presented interactively by encouraging attendees to share what they hoped students were getting from their student employment and then following up the participants’ responses with her actual results. She prepared a powerpoint to clearly demonstrate her results. She also focused briefly on the components of a good team based on the student responses for all members of teams who were nominated for the Student Employment Team of the Year for the past five years.
