Writing Workshop for Historians, June 5-8, 2012
From June 5-8, 2012, eleven writers gathered at the Saint John's Abbey Guesthouse to work on their writing projects alone and with tutors and other participants. Over the workshop's four days, writing time was provided as well as time to discuss what makes good writing. Each participant was assigned a writing tutor and a chance to "workshop" a piece of writing. The writers also met and discussed through Skype with authors Martha Sandweiss of Princeton (Passing Strange, Printing the Legend, Photography in the American West, Laura Gilpin) and Stephen J. Pyne of Arizona State University (Voice and Vision: A Guide to Writing History and Other Serious Nonfiction, Voyager, The Ice, How the Canyon Became Grand). Writers Marge Barrett of the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis and Matt Callahan of College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University served as writing tutors for the participants.

If a Road Runs Through It
A documentary film, If A Road Runs Through It, premiered on October 25, 2007 at Pellegrene Auditorium, Saint John's University, Collegeville. The 30-minute documentary, a production of The Project for Under-Told Stories at SJU, tells the story of the challenges rapid change and development have brought to the Avon Hills area of Stearns County.
