Impromptu

Objective

To build a simple structure that will be tested for strength.

Permitted Materials

Usually some combination of craft sticks, string and tape. It will vary from year to year. Materials are provided by SJU.

Testing Procedure

A pneumatic ram (see photo below) will gradually apply pressure to the structure while a computer plots a graph of applied pressure.

Each team of two to four participants will be given a set of materials and the necessary instructions to complete the design in the allotted time.

To be eligible to participate, each member of the team must have submitted an entry in at least one of the other competition categories. New teams can be formed from members of other teams.

Impromptu Testing Equipment
