The Fall 2013 Winners
1st Place People's Choice: Lindsey Wales, Camino del Santiago, Spain, Summer 2013
Photo Name: The Way
Description: This picture is a beautiful representation of the community that was present throughout the Camino. There were groups of people, individuals, young, old, and everyone in between who made their way through the blisters and backache that accompany walking day after day for many weeks straight in all sorts of conditions. Not being able to see the destination, such as in this photo, means a pilgrim on this journey must patiently continue to walk for hours straight and simply bask in the beauty of the journey and all it brings to one's life.
2nd Place: Heather Beckius, Guatemala 2013
Photo Name: Taking Flight
Description: The mysterious, raw Guatemala is not an easy country to traverse. Going beyond one's comfort zone was a daily necessity in this country, where 17 students overcame strange illnesses, spoke a foreign language every day, and lived without much of the comforts we took for granted in the US. When a group of us reached the peak of volcano Santa Maria on a weekend hike, we couldn't resist leaping for joy. Our jump doesn't just represent a conquering of our doubts and physical limitations, but also our choice to "take flight" into an incredibly rewarding and challenging experience.
3rd Place: Frank Zellner, China 2013
Photo Name: The Great Handstand on the Wall
Description: This is a picture of Joshua Jenson doing a handstand on one the biggest architectural feats in human history. We have been to so many amazing places and done so many things just in out first week in China, but seeing the Great Wall was one of the greatest experiences I have ever had.
Best Group Shot: Christine Hanish, Ireland-Galway 2013
Photo Name: Bennie/Johnnie Family Tree
Description: Many of us in the Galway study abroad group have come to Ireland seeking the roots of our own heritage and family trees. We have started off as strangers, but after just a few weeks, we have begun to build the foundation for life-long friendships. In the process, we have planted the roots for a new family tree of Bennies and Johnnies. The picture, taken in Coole Park, County Galway, Ireland, shows each of us in our own unique place on the broad branches of this huge, beautifully green "family" tree.
