Sarah Kruger

Sarah Kruger is an Ambassador who studied abroad in Rome and Greece.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

My roommates and I got up ridiculously early one morning before class and visited the Vatican at sunrise followed by breakfast at a local cafe. It was amazing getting to see the city with the sun coming up and just the locals around.

Why did you choose the program in which you participated?

I wanted to study abroad to get outside my comfort zone and be immersed in a different culture while also having the opportunity to continue my education. I choose the Roman-Greco program because it presented the unique opportunity of living in two different countries. Italian food is also just too wonderful to pass up on.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

Completely worthwhile. Not only do you get to live in another country and really immerse yourself in the experience, but you also take away the best memories and friendships.

How has the trip affected you? How are you different for having completed the experience?

This trip has definitely given me more confidence in myself. I have learned I'm capable of exploring a city I am completely unfamiliar with and that attempting to learn a new language can be hard work, but also really rewarding. I would also say I have a new found sense of adventure that I hope never goes away

What advice do you have for future Study Abroad Students?

Don't limit yourself. Always be willing to try something new.
