Samuel Bauchle
Samuel Bauchle is an Ambassador who studied abroad in Rome and Greece.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
In Rome, I volunteered at a soup kitchen and it truly opened my eyes to the true Rome. It helped me put all the monuments and tourist attractions into perspective and allowed me to feel like more than a traveler in Rome. It gave my time in Rome a more personal and meaningful feel, and it is something I will never forget.
Why did you choose the program in which you participated?
From day one at CSB-SJU I knew I wanted to go on the Roman-Greco program. I have been interested in both Italy and Greece for years and I found the dual country program truly unique. I knew I would never have the option to spend so much time in these two culturally rich countries at any other time in my life.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
It's indescribable. Truly amazing and something that will forever change your outlook towards both of these nations and you will forever feel attached to both Italy and Greece.
How has the trip affected you? How are you different for having completed the experience?
I caught the travel bug. I am already looking for ways to get back over to Italy and Greece. I know that post graduation I will work abroad for a significant length of time. It also opened my eyes to global issues and allowed me to look at "American Issues" through a global perspective.
What advice do you have for future Study Abroad Students?
Don't go into thinking you have read everything that will help you have a successful travel experience. Be willing to go with the flow and be able to adapt to the challenges you may face. Don't give up easily.
