Megan Boll
Megan Boll is an Ambassador who studied abroad in Austria.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
Another student on this trip and I got the opportunity to go stay with an Austrian family one weekend. It was an amazing time and we got to learn so much about their culture in a small town point of view. We got to attend some school events with the students, and it was something we never even knew about before.
Why did you choose the program in which you participated?
I wanted the opportunity to expand my cultural experiences, and become comfortable living in a culture much different than my own. I choose the Austria program because I have been taking German classes since I was a freshman in high school. I also choose this program because I have also stayed in Germany for a month and I wanted to stay in another area that was similar.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
It's a once in a life time thing and definitely worth it. It was so amazing and I can't even start do describe it because of all the things I got to do.
How has the trip affected you? How are you different for having completed the experience?
I have become a much more independent person. My knowledge of other cultures and how to fit into other cultures has expanded greatly. I am much more comfortable going to a place that I do not know, and also much more comfortable traveling. I have learned how to get along with people that have a very different view on life. This trip also made me learn a lot about my own culture.
What advice do you have for future Study Abroad Students?
Enjoy every minute that you are abroad. Do things that you would never have thought you would do. Learn about the culture a little bit beforehand and always be open-minded. Only a few of you will get the opportunity to go back to the place you are going so make it worthwhile!
