Mark Doll
Mark Doll is an Ambassador who studied abroad in Spain.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
The most exciting and memorable experience(s) I had while studying in Spain was/were the times I spoke to random Spaniards and really got to know the Segovians which whom I lived with for four months. I made a lot of new friends and am still in contact with some of them over Facebook and email or whatnot.
Why did you choose the program in which you participated?
I was really excited to study abroad in Spain because of many reasons. The main reason was to improve my Spanish by dispersing myself in the culture and trying to fit in as much as possible. Also, I was really interested in the historical aspects of Spain and what it had to offer. Spain had always been one of the places I really wanted to travel to and experience.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
I would tell them stories, and stories, and stories. The experiences were endless, some good and some not so good, but I learned a lot from all of them.
How has the trip affected you? How are you different for having completed the experience?
This aspect of my trip is hard to put into words so the best way I can describe this is that I just seem so much more educated about the world and my presence on Earth than I had been before studying in Spain for four months. There is a lot more meaning to what I said above but is simply indescribable.
What advice do you have for future Study Abroad Students?
Research where you are traveling to so you have some knowledge before you set foot there. Don't be afraid to ask questions because every question is important. Talk to previous study abroad students about their trip and get the most information you can out of them. They will love to answer any questions you have.
