Lindsay Brull is an Ambassador who studied abroad in China.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
The thing I will remember the most is all the people. They were very different (from our culture) and they were extremely welcoming, making my time in China a little bit easier.
Why did you choose the program in which you participated?
I wanted to study abroad because I knew it would be a good experience. I also decided to go to China because I am an Asian Studies- Chinese Minor and I knew I would be able to learn the Chinese language better in China.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
I LOVED my experience! If a person is comfortable stepping out of their comfort zone, then this trip is for them! China was very different than the U.S. and had multiple things to offer that I think everyone should know and take advantage of.
How has the trip affected you? How are you different for having completed the experience?
My trip to China has forced me to become more independent and outgoing. Because I was almost on my own I learned how to do more things on my own, i.e.- exchange money in Chinese. I feel like I am more mature since having studied abroad. I used to let little things bother me, but now they really just don't matter.
What advice do you have for future Study Abroad Students?
If you think China will have what you're looking for (normal toothpaste, feminine products, etc.) think again. It might be a good idea to pay the over-weight fee at the airport because everything in China is just so different- you really don't know what they will/won't have. But, overall my time in China was AMAZING and everyone should go!
