Kolby Kulas is an Ambassador who studied abroad in Austria.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
I really enjoyed our trip to Vienna because I got to see where the royalty of Austria came from and it is a huge cultural center so I was really able to experience the cultural center of Austria.
Why did you choose the program in which you participated?
I wanted to study abroad to fully experience German/Austrian culture and to further my language studies. I also wanted to experience living in another part of the world and learn about a different culture firsthand.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
This was among the best experiences in my life and was rewarding in every way. I loved being there and this trip vastly increased my desire to see other parts of the world and see other cultures.
How has the trip affected you? How are you different for having completed the experience?
The trip definitely gave me a larger worldview and my German skills increased quite a bit. Being able to live and interact with native German speakers, and to be able to see their different lifestyle was greatly rewarding and allowed me to grow in my understanding of the world.
What advice do you have for future Study Abroad Students?
Always keep an open mind and see as much as you possibly can during your short time there. Try to do different things all the time.
