Katlynn Nelson
Katlynn Nelson is an Ambassador who studied abroad in Rome and Greece

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
When I was in Italy, two of my friends and I went to Sicily and climbed Mt. Etna! We hired a guide to take us who was from a town near there. We spent the next six hours having the best time. I made a great new friend and enhanced my friendships with the two that came with me.
Why did you choose the program in which you participated?
I wanted to study abroad to experience a different culture from my own here in Minnesota! I felt that it would be something that had the potential to change my view on the world and an opportunity to learn more about myself. I chose the Roman-Greco program because I thought that it offered a lot of the things that I was looking for. It gave me a chance to see not one, but two different countries up close. I love ancient history and it seemed that it was the best choice to throw myself somewhere that was so rich in culture and history.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
I would describe it as life changing in ways that you wouldn't expect. It isn't the big things that will strike you as amazing, more often for me it has been the smaller seemingly unimportant things that I remember the best!
How has the trip affected you? How are you different for having completed the experience?
I feel as though I am more of a global citizen than before. I pay more attention to things that are going on outside of the United States. I also learned so much about myself and how I handle stressful situations.
What advice do you have for future Study Abroad Students?
Open your mind and your heart to the people in the place you are staying.
Travel before or after the trip! (It's worth it!!)
Pack lightly.. actually just pack well. Make sure everything you have you can mix and match!
Embrace the food.
