Gabriel Vertin
Gabriel Vertin is an Ambassador who studied abroad in Chile.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
Most of my significant cultural experiences involved my host family. My host family was such a great resource on Chilean culture, they were always inviting me along to traditional "Chilean" activities and events. These events were fun and left lasting impressions on Chilean culture.
Why did you choose the program in which you participated?
I chose to study abroad in Chile because I wanted to submerse myself in a different culture from my own. I also wanted to improve my Spanish while learning about South American culture.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
As cliche as it is to say, it was the best experience of my life. It is a unique opportunity to meet and learn about people from a different part of the world. I learned as much about my self as I did Chilean culture.
How has the trip affected you? How are you different for having completed the experience?
The trip has not completely changed who I am, I think that it has helped me discover my strengths and weaknesses and improve myself. I feel a lot more comfortable in new situations because being abroad is all about trying new things.
What advice do you have for future Study Abroad Students?
My biggest piece of advice would be to seek the unknown right away. If there is something you want to do find a way to make it happen! Studying abroad is an adventure and it goes by quickly so students should make the most of their time.
