Caitlin Coleman is an Ambassador who studied abroad in Greece and Italy.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
My favorite experience I had abroad was learning how to act in a stressful situation. Also, when in these situations you bond with your colleagues that you're with. I will never forget the time we were almost stranded at the dock in Athens- coming back from Santorini. It is memories like this that make me appreciate friendship and how to make light of predicaments.
Why did you choose the program in which you participated?
I had always know that I wanted to study abroad while in college. However, the real kick to apply was seeing the awesome pictures students took and that made me want to experience that myself. The reason why I choice Greco-Roman was because of the dual sites. I wanted to experience the tropical and laid back atmosphere of Greece, and also experience the beautiful Tuscan country side of Italy.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
I would recommend it! 100 percent. I was able to meet a group of people- that I probable never would have talked to. We were able to overcome our differences and really bond over our new experiences. I learned so much from others about how to view different situations. I would tell the prospective student to sign up- you will have a great time no matter where you go!
How has the trip affected you? How are you different for having completed the experience?
This trip has made me realize that I strive for new experiences. I have always known that I loved adventure- but now I realize I'm a adrenaline junky too! While in Greece, the program provided us with an opportunity to climb up a Mountain! This thrilling experience has made me realize that travel and new experiences are high on stuff I want to accomplish in the future.
What advice do you have for future Study Abroad Students?
To always be open to new experiences. Never stop exploring. And DON'T wish time will fly so you can go home- enjoy every minute!
